I've got questions: Interview with Liba Skuja

Lately it’s a lot about first times for me, last time it was the first G&M photoshoot, this time it’s the first interview for my blog. I interviewed Lība Skuja, a girl who definitely stands out in the crowd and is an upcoming designer.

'F' for First

This is the first of hopefully many photoshoots I’m doing for this blog. This time I wanted to show off the maxi skirt that I made. First of all, I’m no pro tailor, I just try to make things that I like and experiment a lot to see how far can I go with it. For now it’s a hobby that I hope to turn into work one day. So I’ve decided to share some of my designs and I’ll start with this beautiful skirt that I made for my friend recently. She absolutely loves them and is rocking it in this shoot.

Is Jesus trending?

In the past few years we’ve seen a lot of  religion themed fashion trends - crosses, rose crowns, biblical icons & other wonders. But the thing that I just can’t manage to understand is the one that I see on the streets every day. I see at least three or four Jesus-looking guys on a daily basis. Long beards, weird hats, horrible hair, long coats, glasses & homeless-looking clothing. And these are not homeless persons at all - 20, 30-something guys with jobs, girlfriends and families. I don’t really get the ‘beard thing’ as well, you get to see that in fashion ads and music videos, but all that comes to my mind is - Why?

RIGA FASHION WEEK AW13/14

Days have passed and I’ve found the time & the energy to write about what I’ve seen in Riga Fashion Week AW13/14. As always, I am going to be honest, if I don’t like something - I say it. If I hate something, I say it even louder. I had the chance to go to fashion shows by Ieva Daugirdaitė, Comeforbreakfast, Nóló, Lena Tsokalenko & Irina Skladnova. I’m going to write about the good, the bad, the great & the horrible.

The competition in the fashion retail business in tough these days, it seems like you have to have it all - the trend, the quality & the best price for people to buy your product. But what’s good isn’t always cheap. So I decided to write about ‘quality’ in fashion.

I guess it’s spring. You can’t tell it by the weather, but you can tell it by walking in any fashion store. After all the winter collections are sold out with big discounts, the shelves are full of SS13. And just like any other year, we’re tired from the winter and the darkness and look forward to something bright and sunny. And by ‘we’, I mean the most of society and no, I don’t count myself to the most of society.

Warm vs Good-looking

Me and winter have had a very special relationship since I can remember myself. The day I was born, the world was wrapped in deep snow and ever since then, I’ve loved winter. Some years I want it less, some years I want it more, but whenever the first snow falls, there’s always a smile on my face. I like the world so white, it’s so simple, uncomplicated, so minimalistic. But what I don’t like sometimes is the cold. Whenever the temperature drops low, that’s when I start to question my love for winter and my wardrobe.
